Sorsele

Sorsele rural district is very large - larger, in fact, than several south Swedish counties - and contains the main part of the Vindelfjällen Nature Reserve which, with its 5.500 sq.km. is the largest in Europe. More than half of the district's area has some kind of nature protection, while the remainder is comparatively heavily exploited, in particular by forestry.

Sorsele has a lot to offer visitors: tremendous sport fishing opportunities, a grand nature and several places of interest. The Ammarnäs delta is a real bird watching hot-spot as the arctic and mountain birds gather in spring, waiting for the snow to melt away at higher altitudes.

In the mountain forests there are ,e.g., bear, lynx and wolverines, as well as several species of owls and woodpeckers, Siberian jay, capercaillie and other "deep forest birds". In the mountains there is still a population of Arctic fox, the very symbol of the Vindelfjällen Nature Reserve, as well as wolverine and lynx, Gyr falcon and golden eagle.

For the skier, there are always the endless white expanses, but also modern ski resorts in Ammarnäs and at Nalovardo, close to Sorsele village.
